Eric Dane is opening up—and it’s raw, real, and deeply moving. The Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria star, 52, gave his first TV interview since revealing his ALS diagnosis earlier this year, and let’s just say… it hits you right in the chest.

Speaking with Diane Sawyer in an exclusive preview for Good Morning America (airing Monday, June 16 on ABC), Dane got emotional discussing the impact of the progressive, incurable disease.

“I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” he said, his voice cracking. “It’s not a dream.” (GMA/ABC Preview)

And just like that, the former McSteamy showed us what real strength looks like.

When Sawyer asked who his first call was after learning the diagnosis, Dane paused, visibly choked up, wiped a tear, and simply couldn’t get the words out. No need. The silence said everything. (GMA/ABC Preview)

Still, he’s far from giving up. “I don’t think this is the end of my story,” he told Sawyer. “I don’t feel like this is the end of me.” (GMA/ABC Preview) That mix of heartbreak and hope? It’s powerful—and unmistakably human.

Dane first shared the news of his ALS diagnosis with People magazine in April, thanking his family for their love and support during what he called an “unimaginably difficult time.”

Known for his swagger and screen presence, Dane now faces a reality far more personal—but no less courageous. And while ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, can lead to severe muscle weakness and loss of motor function, Dane’s spirit remains anything but weak.

Euphoria is back in production, and Dane hasn’t missed a beat. He’s also slated to appear in Amazon’s upcoming series Countdown, premiering June 25.

Hollywood’s seen its fair share of brave faces, but this one? It’s unfiltered, unguarded, and unforgettable. Dane didn’t just speak out—he let us in.
