Lahore, Pakistan: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has been assigned a new responsibility in Punjab under the government of his daughter, Maryam Nawaz. Having served as Prime Minister three times, Nawaz is now the Patron-in-Chief of the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR). He will oversee the restoration of several colonial-era buildings in Lahore.

The party of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), mocked the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief, sarcastically congratulating him on his new government job.

Senior PTI leader Shaukat Basra stated on Thursday that Nawaz Sharif had been living a retired life after his party’s humiliating defeat in the 2024 elections. He alleged that Imran Khan’s mandate was stolen, and the government was handed over to PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by Asif Ali Zardari.

Basra further remarked, “Maryam Nawaz has now assigned her father some work. For Nawaz Sharif’s health, it is better that he keeps himself busy as a retired politician, overseeing the renovation of old buildings.”

Notably, Lahore is a historic city with many heritage buildings, which have deteriorated over time due to lack of maintenance.
