Tokyo To Houston Flight Diverted After Passenger Tries To Open Emergency Exit Door
Things got turbulent on the ground before they ever did in the skies.
An All Nippon Airways flight from Tokyo to Houston turned into an unexpected detour to Seattle after a passenger reportedly tried to open the emergency exit door. Midflight. Over the ocean.
According to CNN, the drama unfolded roughly nine hours into Saturday’s 11-hour journey on Flight NH114, when a man got up and made a beeline for the emergency door. Not exactly the kind of aisle activity flight attendants want to see.
Thankfully, a pair of military veterans happened to be on board — and they didn’t hesitate. The two passengers jumped in, restrained the man with zip ties, and kept things calm until the Boeing 787-9 could land safely at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport around 4:19 a.m.
Turns out, according to authorities, the man was experiencing what they called a “medical episode.” He was taken to a hospital for evaluation. No charges have been filed as of now.
But the plot thickens.
While still on the tarmac in Seattle, a second passenger started acting up — and they were also removed from the plane, per Chron and People. No word yet if this was related, but seriously… what was in the air?
Despite the double drama, no injuries were reported, and after the unscheduled pit stop, the flight eventually made its way to Houston — just about four hours late.
ANA, for their part, issued a thank-you to passengers and law enforcement, saying safety remains their top priority. No doubt.
Let’s all agree: keep the doors closed, the drama low, and the zip ties in the toolbox — not the cabin.
