Nor’easter to Soak Northeast With Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Ahead of Memorial Day

A chilly nor’easter is set to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and even some May snow to New England just before the Memorial Day weekend kicks off.

Rain jackets on. Patio plans off. A moody, soaking nor’easter is barging into the Northeast just days before Memorial Day weekend—and it’s not here to make friends.

According to CBS News Boston, the storm is spinning up off the Mid-Atlantic coast and heading straight for New England. It’s expected to make landfall Thursday afternoon, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and the kind of chilly, raw vibe that screams “hot soup and sweatpants.”

WCVB reports we’re looking at 1 to 3 inches of rain, with the heaviest downpours Thursday night into Friday morning. Got a low-lying street or a basement that floods if someone sneezes? Keep an eye out—localized flooding is on the table.

And let’s talk wind. This storm is flexing. Gusts could hit 50 mph, especially along the coast and on Cape Cod. Translation: tie down the lawn furniture, cancel that beach walk, and maybe check your flashlight batteries.

Also—hello, Mount Washington! The White Mountains in New Hampshire could see actual snow. In May. Because New England likes to keep things interesting.

Temperatures? Don’t expect much warmth. Highs will hover in the upper 40s to low 50s, but between the rain and the wind, it’ll feel like fall snuck back in for an encore.

The silver lining? CBS and WCVB say things should slowly improve by the weekend. Friday’s still soggy, but by Sunday, you might actually remember it’s late May.
