James Comey Faces Backlash Over Instagram Post Featuring Noose

James Comey just dropped an Instagram post that has people talking — and not in a “nice vacation pic” kind of way.

The former FBI director, who famously clashed with Donald Trump during his presidency, posted an image of a noose hanging in what looked like a rustic barn. The caption? A cryptic quote from a 19th-century legal textbook: “A guilty verdict is not a hanging verdict.”

Immediately, critics pounced, accusing Comey of hinting at violence against Trump. Some right-leaning outlets ran with headlines like, “Comey Calls for Trump’s Execution?” (spoiler: he didn’t).

Still, the symbolism was hard to ignore.

“Posting a noose when you’ve got a history with Trump and an audience of millions? That’s either shockingly tone-deaf or very intentional,” wrote one commentator on X (formerly Twitter).

I trust everyone is clocking what former FBI Dir James Comey is implying here (posted to Instagram at roughly 3:30 PM EST today) because it ain’t good.

This is 100% a plea for someone to murder Trump. pic.twitter.com/m3GuPJRSh1

🚨 WTF?! Former FBI Director James Comey just posted a photo calling for the ASSASSlNATION of President Trump

There is a reason why James Comey is still posting cryptic messages on his Instagram that could be seen as veiled threats towards POTUS 47….

He is petrified of retribution after he helped the deep state frame Donald Trump for treason.

In other words, he is scared of justice… pic.twitter.com/oLABsLFPOM

The backlash came fast. Users flooded Comey’s comments, with reactions ranging from “This is unacceptable” to “What were you thinking?”

Conservative media had a field day. Fox News, Newsmax, and the New York Post all questioned Comey’s motives. Some suggested the post flirted with the line between edgy and threatening.

Let’s be clear: Comey didn’t name Trump. He didn’t even mention politics. But context matters. And in today’s hypercharged political climate, posting a noose — a symbol with centuries of violent connotation — isn’t exactly neutral.

Comey hasn’t publicly responded. No clarification. No follow-up. Just radio silence, which has only fueled more speculation.

This isn’t his first social media curveball either. The man once posted a shot of himself standing alone in the woods with the caption: “So many questions.” Think Gandalf meets moody Gen Z influencer.

But this time? He might’ve gone too far.

In the age of cancel culture, call-outs, and Instagram outrage, even ex-FBI directors aren’t immune to getting ratio’d.

And while Trump hasn’t commented yet, don’t be surprised if a “witch hunt” tweet pops up soon.

Stay tuned. This one isn’t over.
