Bombay High Court directs Mumbai Family Court to decide on Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma's divorce case by Today.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s divorce case update.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s divorce verdict Today.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has ordered the Mumbai Family Court to deliver a verdict on the divorce of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma by today (March 20). Dhanashree had filed a petition in the High Court seeking a waiver of the six-month cooling-off period.

Additionally, it has come to light that Chahal will have to pay ₹4.75 crore as alimony to his wife, Dhanashree Verma. Out of this, Chahal has already paid ₹2.37 crore to Dhanashree, while the remaining amount will be given after the divorce is finalized.

There were rumors that Chahal had agreed to pay ₹60 crore as alimony, but these turned out to be false. Dhanashree’s family also denied these claims. Chahal and Dhanashree have not been living together for a long time, and their divorce case has been ongoing in the Family Court.

According to Bar & Bench, Justice Madhav Jamdar of the High Court has instructed the Family Court to reach a decision by today, considering Chahal’s participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Court’s Decision on Cooling-off Period

As per Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, a six-month cooling-off period is granted for mutual consent divorces. However, Dhanashree Verma had petitioned the High Court to waive this period to expedite the divorce process. Since Chahal and Dhanashree have been living separately for the past two and a half years, the High Court considered this while passing its order.

In a 2017 case, the Supreme Court ruled that if there is no scope for reconciliation between a husband and wife, the six-month period can be waived.

Yuzvendra Chahal is a star leg-spinner for Team India, while Dhanashree is a well-known social media influencer. The couple got married in December 2020, but they started living separately after June 2022. Their divorce case was then filed in the Mumbai Family Court.

Recently, both Chahal and Dhanashree attended court hearings, where they requested the Family Court to waive the six-month cooling-off period. However, on February 20, the court denied their request, which was a setback for both of them.
