Amritsar: Lights out, people! The Amritsar administration just hit the switch on a surprise blackout drill Wednesday night — and yes, it caught plenty of folks off guard.

Residents were asked to stay indoors and kill the lights as part of a high-alert civil defence mock drill. Think of it as a citywide game of hide-and-seek, but with a purpose — preparedness.

As per The Economic Times, the blackout is tied to recent national-level security drills after Operation Sindoor, India’s bold military strike targeting terror hubs across the border. No joke — tensions are real, and this drill’s got a serious edge.

At exactly 10:30 PM, Amritsar dimmed down. Earlier, there was a 4:00 PM dry run too. Authorities were loud and clear: stay inside, switch off exterior lights, and don’t spread rumours faster than your Wi-Fi.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni reassured locals that this was just a mock drill. No panic needed, no last-minute grocery runs, and absolutely no hoarding Maggi noodles like it’s lockdown 2.0.

Even the District Public Relations Office (DPRO) jumped in, urging calm and clarity. And for those wondering if the blackout was permanent — chill, electricity was restored right after the drill wrapped.

The main goal? Get people ready, not rattled.

One important note: officials are not playing around with misinformation. Sharing unverified videos or spinning wild tales on WhatsApp? Expect a call — and not the friendly kind.

So next time your neighborhood goes dark unexpectedly, maybe it’s not a ghost — maybe it’s just Amritsar flexing its readiness muscles.
