Dev Patel To Direct And Star In Medieval Revenge Thriller “the Peasant”
Hold onto your swords, people, because Dev Patel is about to get seriously medieval on us.
The Monkey Man star just announced he’s writing, directing, AND starring in a brand new 14th-century revenge thriller called The Peasant, and we are HERE FOR IT.
Word on the street — okay, straight from Empire and Bloody Disgusting — is that The Peasant is basically Braveheart meets John Wick with a dash of Arthurian legend, all set in a wild, mystical version of India.
In other words, think badass shepherd energy meets armored knights getting their butts kicked.
Dev’s not just swinging swords; he’s swinging behind the camera too.
After crushing his directorial debut with Monkey Man, dude’s clearly got the taste for blood and glory.
No chill, just vibes and medieval chaos.
The movie is based on a script from Ms. Marvel writer Will Dunn that even made it onto the 2023 Black List — aka Hollywood’s hottest unproduced screenplays.
Dev swooped in, reworked the whole setting from Italy to India, and gave it a fresh mystical spin.
Because why settle for castles when you can have ancient forts, elephants, and some seriously epic beards?
Producers from John Wick — yup, the people who turned Keanu Reeves into a legend — are backing this too, so you KNOW it’s about to be non-stop action.
No boring royal tea parties here.
Plot-wise, it’s simple but savage.
Dev plays a humble shepherd whose village gets wrecked by mercenary knights.
Spoiler alert: he’s not just some dude with sheep.
Cue the revenge tour of the century.
No word yet on who else is starring or when we’ll get it in theaters, but honestly, Dev in armor swinging swords?
That’s enough to get us lining up already.
“This could launch a whole new franchise,” Empire teased, and honestly, we wouldn’t be mad about it.
Give us five movies and a theme park, please and thank you.
Stay tuned, knights, peasants, and chaotic neutral villagers — this one’s gonna be a bloody good time.
