Capcom just dropped a nuclear bomb of a reveal — and no, not the kind that wiped out Raccoon City the first time.

If you thought the Resident Evil series was done haunting your dreams, think again. At Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom officially pulled the curtain back on Resident Evil 9: Requiem — and let’s just say it looks absolutely unhinged in the best way.

Announced live on stage, the next chapter in the long-running horror franchise brings players back to Raccoon City, a place that’s somehow even creepier now that it’s been nuked into oblivion. The game’s hitting PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on 27 February 2026, according to Polygon.

And yes, you read that right. Raccoon. Freaking. City. Only this time, the place looks like it’s been through The Last of Us, Silent Hill, and Chernobyl — all at once.

At the centre of this radioactive horror show is Grace Ashcroft, a tough-as-nails FBI agent with a tragic past and a haunted family tree. She also happens to be the daughter of journalist Alyssa Ashcroft, who fans might remember from Resident Evil Outbreak.

According to AS.com, Grace is on a mission to investigate her mother’s mysterious death. And where’s she headed first? A creepy abandoned hotel, of course. Because nothing bad ever happens in an abandoned hotel in Resident Evil, right?

From the brief but bone-chilling footage shown during the Fest, Capcom’s clearly leaning hard into the psychological horror side of things. Think less zombie shooting, more slow-burn dread. The environments look grimy, twisted, and heartbreakingly familiar.

We’re talking a ruined R.P.D. station. A crumbling Spencer mansion. Even a rotting underground lab or two. It’s the Resident Evil nostalgia trip you didn’t know you needed, served with a shot of pure terror.

Capcom says the game will feature “ultra-realistic character models and expressive animations” thanks to their updated RE Engine. Expect every blood-splattered hallway and haunted whisper to feel uncomfortably real.

But wait — there’s more. Capcom also announced a new live-action film, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, which adapts the prequel story from Resident Evil Zero. It’s directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian), which honestly makes too much sense. That guy lives in horror basements.

The trailer for Resident Evil 9? It’s already got fans spiraling — in a good way. The YouTube comments section under the official reveal trailer is basically just variations of “TAKE MY MONEY.”
