Molotov Attack Hits Pearl Street Mall During Peace Walk

A peaceful Sunday afternoon in Boulder took a terrifying turn when Molotov cocktails were hurled at a group of demonstrators on Pearl Street Mall, injuring multiple people and sparking panic in the city’s bustling downtown.

Police say the attack happened just after 1:30 p.m. near 13th and Pearl Streets, where dozens had gathered for a walk organized by “Run For Their Lives” — a group raising awareness for Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

Without warning, a man allegedly launched flaming bottles toward the crowd, causing chaos and sending people scrambling. Several bystanders suffered burn injuries, according to authorities. First responders rushed to the scene, and police quickly locked down a stretch of Pearl Street from Walnut to Pine.

The suspect was detained on the spot and is now in custody. Police haven’t released the attacker’s name yet, and the motive remains under investigation.

“We know emotions are high globally, but this level of violence on our streets is unacceptable,” Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said during a press conference. He added that it’s too early to determine whether the incident was politically or ideologically motivated.

Still, others aren’t holding back. FBI Director Kash Patel, speaking Sunday evening, called the act a “targeted terror attack.” That comment has stirred controversy, with local officials urging caution until the investigation concludes.

The group behind the demonstration expressed heartbreak over the violence. “Our walk was meant to raise awareness peacefully,” said a spokesperson for Run For Their Lives. “We are devastated that it ended in harm.”

Members of Boulder’s Jewish community have also spoken out, saying they feel targeted and shaken. Meanwhile, support has poured in from across Colorado as locals condemn the attack and call for unity.

The FBI is now working alongside Boulder police, and forensic teams remained on-site into the evening. Streets have since reopened, but the scars from this attack are likely to linger far longer.
