X (formerly Twitter) suffers global outage due to data center failure

X went down hard Friday evening after a major data center glitch left users worldwide unable to log in, tweet, or even refresh their timelines.

Thousands Left Staring at a Blank Feed as Twitter (Yeah, Still Calling It That) Crashes

X — the artist formerly known as Twitter — went completely MIA Friday evening, leaving users across the globe staring at frozen screens and wondering if they’d accidentally logged into MySpace.

Reports of the outage started flying in just after 4 PM IST, according to Downdetector, with users in the U.S., India, and beyond unable to refresh their timelines, post tweets, or even log in. By peak chaos, thousands had joined the digital stampede looking for answers.

Spoiler alert: there weren’t many.

The problem? A major data center faceplant, according to engineers at X, per The Economic Times. Core features like DMs, logins, new signups, and Premium access were all out of commission.

“Things broke. We’re fixing it,” might as well have been the official statement.

Meanwhile, folks flocked to Instagram, Reddit, and — in a wild turn of irony — Facebook to vent. Even TikTok saw a wave of users chronicling their Twitterless existential crises.

It’s not the first time X has stumbled. Just two days earlier, a fire broke out at a data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, according to PureVPN News. That incident knocked some services offline and now, it looks like the platform’s still feeling the heat.

By Saturday morning, things were mostly back to normal, though some users were still dealing with lingering glitches.

Elon hasn’t tweeted (uh, X’d?) about the mess just yet. But you can bet if he does, it’ll be something spicy.

Until then, here’s hoping your feed’s back to firing off memes and hot takes.
