Ariel Winter Doesn’t Watch Modern Family Reruns And Honestly, We Get It

Ariel Winter is officially not spending her free time reliving her geek-chic Alex Dunphy days.

The former Modern Family star just told PEOPLE she doesn’t really watch reruns of the hit ABC sitcom that made her a household name.

“I actually don’t,” she said with a laugh. “I’m like a crime documentary procedural show kind of girl. I’m in on all the dark shows.”

Okay Ariel, dark and twisty queen!

The 26-year-old actress played brainy middle-child Alex Dunphy for eleven seasons—yep, from age 11 to 22. That’s basically a lifetime in Hollywood years. So, no shade if she’s choosing Dateline over Dunphys these days.

But don’t worry—she’s not ghosting her TV fam. She says she still talks to her on-screen bro Nolan Gould (Luke Dunphy IRL) all the time.

And while she’s not binging her own show, Ariel’s got plenty going on. She’s developing a cooking show (where’s the invite, Ariel?), and she’s coming back as the voice of Sofia in Disney’s Sofia the First: Royal Magic, which drops in 2026.

Oh, and she’s doing serious work off-screen too—fighting online exploitation through the nonprofit SOSA (Safe from Online Sex Abuse). She’s been super open about surviving abuse and says helping others heal helps her heal too. Respect.

Ariel’s not clinging to the past. She’s cooking, voicing, and crime-doc-watching her way into the next chapter.

Modern Family reruns? That’s cute. But she’s onto bigger, bolder things.
