Missile From Yemen’s Houthis Hits Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, Injuring Six

A missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels struck near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, injuring six and shaking the region’s nerves and air traffic.

Boom.

That was the sound of a ballistic missile slamming into the grounds of Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv — Israel’s busiest travel hub — on Saturday.

The launch? Courtesy of Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The same group that’s been firing missiles like it’s a regional sport since the Israel-Gaza war heated up last year.

This one actually landed. And it landed close — really close. About 75 meters from Terminal 3, according to The Times of Israel. For context, that’s roughly half a football field away from where travelers check in for their flights.

The impact carved out a 25-meter-deep crater in the airport’s access area. Not the vibe you want when you’re just trying to catch a flight.

At least six people were injured, Reuters reported — one seriously, others with minor wounds. Two more were treated for panic attacks, which, frankly, feels understandable when missiles start raining from the sky.

Flights? Delayed. Canceled. Suspended. For a hot minute, Ben Gurion looked less like a major international airport and more like a very confused, very empty movie set.

NDTV dropped drone footage showing the aftermath — it looked like something straight out of Call of Duty: Tel Aviv Edition.

Now, let’s talk defense.

Israel’s high-tech anti-missile systems — including the U.S.-made THAAD and Israel’s own Arrow — tried to intercept it. They missed.

Big yikes.

The Houthis are claiming it was a hypersonic missile. (That’s like a missile, but on Red Bull.) Independent sources haven’t confirmed that yet, so let’s not crown them tech kings just yet.

The message from the Houthis? According to Al Jazeera, it was “solidarity with Gaza.” They also warned that Ben Gurion is “no longer safe for international travel.” Which sounds like a plot twist no airline executive ever wants to hear.

Israel’s not shrugging this off. Prime Minister Netanyahu held an emergency security meeting faster than you can say “Iron Dome.” Defense Minister Israel Katz said those who harm Israel will be “struck sevenfold.” (Biblical energy, anyone?)

Airlines aren’t waiting around. Lufthansa, Air Europa, and Wizz Air have already pulled the plug on flights to Tel Aviv — at least for now.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is doubling down on military support in the region. Under President Trump, American forces have been hitting Houthi targets in Yemen hard since March.

This attack on Ben Gurion marks a sharp and very real escalation in what was already a tense moment for the Middle East.

One thing’s clear: airports are supposed to be about duty-free snacks and bad Wi-Fi, not craters and airstrikes.

Let’s hope this isn’t the new normal.
