'Floribama Shore' Star Kirk Medas Dies at 33 After Illness, Family Confirms
Hold up—say what now?
Kirk Medas, one of the original cast members of MTV’s Floribama Shore, has tragically passed away at just 33 years old. Yep, you read that right.
Medas died on May 2 after battling a rare and severe illness—necrotizing pancreatitis—which ultimately led to liver failure, according to Entertainment Weekly. He’d been hospitalized in a Miami ICU for nearly two weeks, placed on a ventilator, and eventually slipped into a coma.
Fans of the show knew him as the chill, wise-cracking glue guy of the house—the one who somehow kept the chaos semi-contained while the rest of the crew went full Spring Break mode. But behind the scenes, Medas had been fighting a different battle.
In a gut-punch update posted to a family-run GoFundMe (which had raised over $27,000 at press time), loved ones confirmed he had no health insurance and had faced mounting medical expenses. The fundraiser has now been updated to help cover funeral costs.
“Kirk passed away this morning. He fought so hard,” the family wrote, via People. “Please continue to share and support if you’re able.”
Before his hospitalization, Medas had posted on social media about making big changes—quitting alcohol, embracing faith, and focusing on improving himself. One of his last Instagram posts was full of hope: “I’m growing mentally, physically and emotionally,” he wrote. “God got me.”
MTV and 495 Productions (the team behind Floribama Shore) released a joint statement mourning the loss of one of their own, calling him “a cherished member of the MTV family.”
Co-star Aimee Hall shared a moving tribute on Instagram, writing that Medas was “the glue that held us all close” and even recalled a powerful spiritual moment she experienced shortly before he died. “You visited me,” she said in a heartfelt message. “I know you did.”
Medas first appeared on Floribama Shore in 2017 and stuck around for all four seasons until 2021. He also popped up in other MTV shows like Fear Factor and How Far Is Tattoo Far?, always keeping things light, funny, and unapologetically real.
Gone way too soon, but never forgotten. RIP, Kirk.
