Whoa. This one hits hard. Jill Sobule — the voice behind the OG “I Kissed a Girl” — has tragically died after a house fire ripped through her Minnesota home. She was 66.

According to Page Six, the fire broke out Wednesday night (May 1) in Woodbury, Minnesota. Authorities rushed to the scene, but it was too late. Sobule was pronounced dead inside the home.

Yeah, that Jill Sobule. The singer-songwriter who gave us the flirty, quirky 1995 hit before Katy Perry’s version made headlines. Hers was raw, honest, and totally ahead of its time.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed the news through her longtime manager, John Porter, who said, “Jill was a brilliant artist and a fearless truth-teller. Her wit, humor, and spirit touched everyone she met.”

Sobule wasn’t a one-hit wonder, either. Remember “Supermodel” from Clueless? Yep, that was her too. Major ‘90s energy.

Over her decades-long career, she dropped 12 albums, used her voice to speak out on LGBTQ+ rights, and even brought her life story to the stage with the musical F— 7th Grade, which earned a Drama Desk nomination.

The Guardian reported that Jill is survived by her brother James, sister-in-law Mary Ellen, and three nephews. Her family says a memorial will take place this summer.
