Coco Gauff Defeats Iga Swiatek To Reach Madrid Open Final
Coco Gauff just torched Iga Swiatek in the Madrid Open semifinals — and yes, it was exactly as brutal as it sounds.
The 20-year-old American came out swinging and didn’t let up for a second, demolishing world No. 1 Swiatek 6-1, 6-1 in just over an hour. That’s not a typo. One of the most dominant players in women’s tennis got straight-up smoked.
According to WTA.com, Gauff was untouchable. She dropped only two games the entire match, fired off six aces, and didn’t even face a break point. Meanwhile, Swiatek crumbled with 21 unforced errors and just seven winners. Yeah… this was a tennis beatdown of Serena-at-her-peak proportions.

If you’re keeping score (pun intended), this was Gauff’s first win over Swiatek on clay. She’d lost five straight on the surface to the Polish powerhouse. But not today, Satan. Not today.
Gauff has now beaten Swiatek three times in a row — flipping a once one-sided rivalry on its head. Swiatek still leads their head-to-head 11-3, but momentum? Fully Gauff’s now.
Tennis.com reported that Gauff looked “aggressive and confident” — a far cry from her earlier clay struggles. She also casually mentioned having to walk the last mile to her hotel earlier in the week after a power outage in Spain and Portugal, per TalkSport. Like a boss.
Next up, she’ll face either Aryna Sabalenka or Elina Svitolina in the final. If she wins, it’ll be her first clay title since 2021 — and could push her to American No. 1 depending on rankings.
Oh, and one more thing? She’s doing all this while balancing a full-time Nike endorsement deal, the pressure of being America’s next big hope, and somehow still keeping it humble.
Gauff is giving main character energy. And Madrid? She just made it her stage.
