The family of Karmelo Anthony — nope, not the NBA star, but a 17-year-old high schooler from Frisco — has raked in over $515,000 online after he was charged with fatally stabbing another teen during a track meet.
You read that right. Over half a mil raised on GiveSendGo in what feels like record time — all to fund Anthony’s legal team, security, and apparently some serious relocation goals.
This all went down on April 2 at Kuykendall Stadium. According to reports, Karmelo, a student at Centennial High, was chilling in the Memorial High bleachers when 17-year-old Austin Metcalf allegedly told him to move. Words were exchanged. Things escalated. And in moments, Metcalf was stabbed once in the chest.
Karmelo says he was defending himself. Prosecutors aren’t buying it.
After a $1 million bail was slashed to $250K — thanks to his clean record — the judge, Angela Tucker, found herself on the wrong side of the internet. She was doxxed hard, and the FBI is now on it. Yep, this case has layers.
And while the teen’s defense says they’re under threat and need to move for safety, people are side-eyeing the fact that the family is now posted up in a swanky $900,000 gated rental. Not exactly your average safe house.
Jacob Wells, co-founder of GiveSendGo, insists it’s all being used “responsibly.” Most of the money is going to the legal team. The rest? For living costs and private security. Because apparently, things are that intense.
Oh, and just to be clear — even if convicted, Anthony won’t face the death penalty.
So now, the internet’s watching. The family’s counting cash. And one Texas courtroom is about to get a whole lot of attention.
Stay tuned — this isn’t over.
