BENGALURU — Punjab Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five wickets in a rain-shortened 14-over match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, April 18, during Match 34 of the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Put in to bat after the rain delay, RCB struggled to build momentum and ended with 95 for 9 in their allotted overs. Tim David, who came in at No. 6, top-scored with an unbeaten 50 off 26 balls. His innings included five fours and three sixes, helping RCB recover from 43 for 6.

Punjab’s chase began with a stumble. Prabhsimran Singh was caught behind for 2 in the second over, and Liam Livingstone followed soon after, bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 9. At 33 for 3, Nehal Wadhera steadied the innings with a 22-ball 33 that included four boundaries.

Josh Hazlewood bowled a sharp three-over spell and took 3 for 14, dismissing Shikhar Dhawan and Wadhera in consecutive overs. With 14 runs needed from the last two overs, Marcus Stoinis closed the game with a six over long-on, finishing unbeaten on 16 from 7 balls. Punjab reached the target in 12.1 overs with five balls to spare.

The match was delayed by nearly two hours due to intermittent rain, reducing it to a 14-over contest. Despite the shortened format, over 30,000 spectators remained in the stadium through the delay.
