The controversy surrounding Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s installation of a watch at the Ram temple in Ayodhya continues to escalate. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, the national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has expressed strong objections to Salman Khan wearing a watch related to the Ram temple on the Republic Bharat TV channel.
According to the Maulana, Sharia does not permit any Muslim to promote the religious symbols, buildings, or temples of non-Muslims, and doing so is considered haram. In response to Maulana Barelvi’s objections, a Hindu saint gave a strong reply, advising the Maulana that while he may not apologize for his statement, he should not spread extremism in society through his controversial comments.
In fact, Bollywood actor Salman Khan has shared three pictures on his social media platform Instagram. In these pictures, Salman is seen wearing a special watch that has an image of the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya inscribed on it. Salman wrote in the caption, “Let’s meet in theaters on Eid.”

Following Salman Khan’s post, religious leaders across the country have sparked a political uproar; in this context, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, the national president of the All India Muslim Jamait, has called Salman Khan’s promotion of Sanatan a sin. Meanwhile, Hindu saints have also launched a campaign against Muslim religious leaders like Maulana Barelvi. A Hindu saint has given a vigorous response to the extremist statements made by the Maulana.
Sant Vishnudas responds to Maulana Barelvi
In an exclusive conversation with Republic Bharat, the Hindu seer said on Maulana Barelvi’s statement, “Talk about religion, talk about increasing religion, talk about humanity, talk about humanity. To whom does this rule apply? There is no law in India. The second thing is to accuse a player, to accuse an artist, while chasing someone, all this is a sign of the wrong mindset in your thoughts.
You confine your thoughts to yourself, you are not entitled to bind anyone in the Shariat. Arre bhai, don’t apologise till the end of your life, don’t apologise for many lives, but in the eyes of the society and the people who are listening to this, they are wrong. What is the need to talk about such fanaticism? You live in our nation, eat the food of the nation, breathe the air of the nation. Living in the light of the nation, what is the need for you to make statements that disintegrate the society? Why are you promoting fundamentalism, you talk social, you talk good. ‘
Earlier, during a debate on Republic Bharat, Maulana Barelvi said, “First of all, it should be understood that whoever is a Muslim and is a follower of Islam, then it is most important for him to stay within the ambit of Islam. To every Muslim, Islam has placed certain limits on what is lawful and what is unlawful in Islam.
Like now take the example of this watch that Salman Khan saab is wearing, this is un-Islamic. Islam does not allow any non-Islamic work. I have directly said this thing of Shariat that Salman Khan sahab is a famous personality because he is a Muslim, he is a famous actor of India and he is also a Muslim and because he is a Muslim, Shariat will be imposed on him.
They have to follow the rules and regulations. That is what I have said that they should not do non-shariyya work and if they have done it, then they are also responsible for it. That is, Salman Khan should repent to Allah and take care that he will never do any non-Shariah work in the future. ‘
Razvi further said, “A watch has been made for the promotion of Ram temple. Salman Khan is wearing that watch for promotion. I want to tell them that they are first and foremost Muslims. Islamic law does not allow any Muslim to propagate religious symbols, buildings or temples of non–Muslims.
If a Muslim indulges in such propaganda – whether from a temple or by wearing a watch with a ‘Ram version‘ on it, according to Sharia, he is committing a crime and that is considered a sin. This act is haram and should be avoided. I want to advise Salman Khan to take off the watch of Ram Naam Edition from his hands. ‘
