
In Kiran Rao’s film ‘Laapataa Ladies’, superstar Aamir Khan wanted to play the role of ‘Inspector Manohar’. However, he failed the audition. He shared an audition tape of himself in police uniform, where he was seen chewing paan.
The rejected audition clip for ‘Laapataa Ladies’ showcased an aspect of the actor that has never been seen before. Although this role did not make it to the big screen, the video is being liked by social media users. Aamir’s new YouTube channel ‘Aamir Khan Talkies’ shared a video in which Kiran Rao revealed that Aamir was initially supposed to play a policeman named ‘Shyam Manohar’, which later went to Ravi Kishan.
The released audition clip shows Aamir acting in a scene from the film. In the video, the actor is seen as a policeman, casually chewing paan and talking to the people present. In the audition clip, Aamir is seen auditioning for the role of ‘Shyam Manohar’ in police uniform with different gestures. He also makes some mistakes in the clip.
Earlier, producer-director Kiran Rao had revealed that Aamir was initially keen on playing the role of ‘Shyam Manohar’ and had even auditioned for the role. However, after watching Ravi Kishan’s screen test, he felt that Kishan is better for it and gave him a chance.
“I wanted to play a cop in the film and I even gave a screen test, but they didn’t let me do it. I was very keen to play this character and I think I tested very well, but after discussing it with Kiran, we both agreed that Ravi Kishan is perfect for the role. It was a mutual decision. At IIFA 2025, the ‘Laapataa Ladies’ took home 10 trophies. Ravi Kishan won the award for Best Supporting Actor.
