IPL 2025: LSG will have to be cautious of SRH's aggressive batting
In IPL 2025, after facing defeat in their first match, the Lucknow Super Giants will face a tough challenge from Sunrisers Hyderabad here on Thursday in their next match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where the batsmen are adept at tearing apart any kind of attack.
Last year’s runners-up Sunrisers have maintained their aggressive style in this season as well. In their first match against Rajasthan Royals, the team came close to breaking their highest score record in the IPL. The Sunrisers won this match by 44 runs.
Led by Pat Cummins, the Sunrisers team has several explosive batsmen, making it not easy for Rishabh Pant’s team to contain them in the absence of their key bowlers. The Sunrisers’ batsmen did not allow the Rajasthan Royals bowlers to dominate in the last match, scoring 286 runs for 6 wickets, including a century by Ishan Kishan. It seemed like Kishan was on a mission. He scored his first century in the IPL after being released by Mumbai Indians, playing an unbeaten 106 runs off 47 balls, hitting six sixes and eleven fours.
In addition to Ishan Kishan, the Sunrisers team includes aggressive batsmen like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Heinrich Klaasen. Not only this, Nitish Kumar Reddy had shown in the last match that underestimating him would be a mistake. In such circumstances, Lucknow will have to step onto the field with a clear plan in the bowling department as minor mistakes can prove to be quite costly. Lucknow faced a close defeat by one wicket against Delhi Capitals in the last match.
Lucknow’s captain Pant could not open his account in the last match. Not only that, he made mistakes in wicket-keeping as well. When Delhi had only one wicket left and needed six runs in the final over, Pant missed an easy stumping chance. In the last match, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran batted aggressively to score half-centuries for Lucknow, and the team will hope for similar performances from them. However, Lucknow’s middle-order batsmen will have to perform better.
In the previous match, the Lucknow bowlers did not perform well except for spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Their fast bowling department has been weakened due to injuries to some key bowlers, and in this situation, the responsibility increases for Shardul Thakur, who was added to the team just before the first match in place of Mohsin Khan.
