Tesla stores targeted amid backlash over Musk’s government policies
President Donald Trump appointed Elon Musk as the head of the Government Efficiency Department, tasking him with reducing government spending. Following layoffs and cost-cutting measures, public anger has erupted at Tesla stores. Trump responded by stating, “Attacking Tesla is equivalent to domestic terrorism. Those targeting the company will face severe consequences.”
Protesters have targeted Tesla’s Cybertruck, setting it on fire. Tesla stores have been shot at and attacked with Molotov cocktails. However, no injuries have been reported. Demonstrators have vandalized Tesla stores, vehicles, charging stations, and privately owned Tesla cars. The attacks have occurred in cities like Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, where anti-Trump and anti-Musk sentiments are strong.
An Oregon man has been accused of allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at a Tesla store and shooting at its windows. Last week, multiple rounds were fired at a Tesla showroom in Portland, damaging vehicles and windows. This was the second attack on the store in a week. Earlier this month, four Cybertrucks were set on fire in Seattle.
Similar attacks are happening outside the U.S. as well. In Canada, Tesla was removed from an international auto show due to security concerns.
