
Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, and Vijay Deverakonda in legal trouble over online betting promotion.
Hyderabad: A case has been registered against several South Indian film stars for allegedly promoting and advertising online betting apps. Telugu cine stars Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, and Vijay Deverakonda, along with six other actors and 19 social media influencers, have been booked by the police for encouraging online gambling.
According to police officials, the Miyapur Police in Cyberabad have registered a case against Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, actress Manchu Lakshmi, and Nidhhi Agerwal, among others, for endorsing betting apps.
The influencers named in the case include Ananya, Sreemukhi, Siri Hanumanth, Shyamala, Varshini, Shobha Neha, Pandu, Padmavati, Imran Khan, Vishnu Priya, Harsha Sai, Sunny Yadav, Tasty Teja, and Ritu.
The police have also booked Manchu Lakshmi and Nidhhi Agerwal, along with the 19 social media influencers. The case has been registered under Section 318(4), 112 R/W 49 BNS, 3, 3(A), 4 of the Telangana State Gaming Act (TSGA), and Section 66D of the IT Act, 2000.
The complainant, 32-year-old businessman Phanindra Sama, alleged that actors and social media influencers are deliberately supporting betting activities, which is leading to the moral degradation and financial crisis of youth. He further stated that many people have suffered severe financial losses due to online betting, leading to the ruin of middle-class families.
