India submits a formal bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.
New Delhi: India has formally submitted its bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad. A top source from the Ministry of Sports said on Thursday that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Gujarat government have sent the application.
Notably, the last date to submit the ‘Expression of Interest’ for hosting the games is March 31. Ahmedabad has been proposed as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. If India secures the hosting rights, it will also strengthen its bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.
India’s Bid
- The Indian Olympic Association and the Gujarat government have sent a letter to the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) regarding Ahmedabad’s hosting proposal.
- The CGF will now evaluate the bid, and the final announcement of the host city will be made by the CGF General Assembly.
India has hosted only a few multi-sport events in the past. The last time India hosted the Commonwealth Games was in 2010 in New Delhi. Prior to that, India hosted the Asian Games only once, in 1982.
