More than 100 people have fallen ill due to a mysterious foam appearing on the beaches of South Australia. Dozens of dead fish, octopuses, and leafy sea dragons have been spotted along the coast. The yellowish, muddy, and shiny foam was seen last week about 100 kilometers south of Adelaide and 15 kilometers southwest of Victor Harbor.
Increase in Microalgae: Experts’ Findings
According to experts, excessive heat and stagnant water have led to a rise in microalgae, which is causing the formation of this foam. The foam was observed at Waitpinga Beach, as well as at Parsons Beach.
Visitors to the affected beaches have reported symptoms such as itchy eyes, dry cough, and throat irritation. Authorities have advised temporarily closing the beaches for safety reasons.
