Israeli airstrikes in Gaza leave devastation, killing over 400 as ceasefire ends.

New Delhi: India on Wednesday expressed concern over the situation in Gaza and called for humanitarian assistance to the conflict-affected Palestinian region. India’s statement came at a time when Israel resumed airstrikes in Gaza on Tuesday, casting uncertainty over the ceasefire agreement reached with Hamas in January.

According to the Hamas-run health ministry, more than 400 people have been killed in Israeli bombings. The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “We are concerned about the situation in Gaza. It is crucial that all hostages are released.” The statement further added, “We also call for the continued supply of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.”

Expressing concern over the situation, India emphasized the necessity of releasing all hostages. The sudden Israeli attack has broken the ceasefire that had been in effect since January, raising the threat of resuming the 17-month-long war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the attack after Hamas rejected Israel’s demand for changes to the ceasefire agreement. Officials indicated that the scope of the attacks could expand.

The White House, the official residence and workplace of the U.S. President, stated that it was consulted before the attack and supported Israel’s decision. The Israeli military has ordered people to leave eastern Gaza and move toward the central region, signaling that Israel may soon launch a renewed ground offensive.
