The U.S. military launched a deadly airstrike on the Houthis on Saturday, killing 31 people. The strike was carried out in response to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. Fighter jets from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier conducted the attack.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he had ordered airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. He warned that as long as the Houthis continue attacking vessels, the U.S. will retaliate. Trump also issued a warning to Iran, urging it to stop supporting the Houthis or face consequences.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Commander Hossein Salami responded, stating that the Houthis act independently and make their own strategic decisions. He cautioned that if the U.S. escalates its threats, Iran will respond decisively and destructively.
This marks the largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office in January. It comes at a time when the U.S. is increasing pressure on Iran to bring it to the negotiating table regarding its nuclear program.
Trump wrote on social media: “Houthi terrorists, your time is up. Stop your attacks immediately, or you will be sent to hell. No terrorist force can prevent U.S. commercial and naval ships from navigating freely in international waters.”
Meanwhile, Houthi media official Nasruddin Amer declared that airstrikes would not stop them and vowed retaliation against the U.S.
